Vehicle Infrastructure Integration (VII), Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and Connected Vehicles

Michigan Tech Research Institute was tasked by the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) to identify 5-10 potential sites for a closed VII test track facility in southeastern Michigan, and worked in cooperation with the Michigan International Speedway (MIS) located in southeastern Michigan. Consideration of a test track facility is an integral part of the overall Connected Vehicle program and vision for the State of Michigan. A closed access test track facility is an enabler for ITS-related research and technology development in the State of Michigan. Such a facility would serve academia, industry, NGOs, and public stakeholders.

MTRI is also engaged in demonstrating uses of advanced remote sensing technologies to address ITS and Connected Vehicle issues, including working with automotive radar and developing new traffic monitoring technologies.
